Are you a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse? You may have a bright future ahead of you with assisted living careers and such like opportunities available for you. Your formal education and training background will surely go a long, long way if you choose to settle with a job in assisted living centers. What is an assisted living center anyway? An assisted living center is commonly viewed as one that provides “supervision or assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs); coordination of services by outside health care providers; and monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being”. This is not far removed from the traditional concept of a nursing home; except that the term ‘assisted living’ is now correlated with more freedom to engage in usual daily activities of the elderly rather that ‘confinement’ under strict rules and rigorous regulations of retirement homes. Most assisted living centers no longer adhere to the hospital type of facilities; instead, residents are given apartment units or detached homes to make it more pleasant and comfortable for the residents instead of a hospital-like setting. Assisted living facilities out there are now devoted to elderly people who are no longer recommended to live independently but are still capable of caring for themselves and just need minimal supervision in terms of their ADLs and health and medical care.
